# Server Rules

This page is the **official copy** of Newell RO's terms and rules. The same text is shown in the
*agree / disagree* window every time the client starts (the `licence.txt` file). That file lives on the
player's computer and anyone can edit it, so if the two differ, **this page is the one that applies**.

By pressing **agree** in the client, you accept the rules below.

## 1. About this server

Newell RO is a free, fan-made private server. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to
Gravity Co., Ltd. or any official Ragnarok Online service. Ragnarok Online and all related names and
artwork belong to their owners.

## 2. Your account

- You are responsible for your account and everything done with it. Never share your password with
  anyone.
- Staff will NEVER ask for your password.
- Account sharing, selling or trading accounts is at your own risk. Lost or stolen items will not be
  restored.

## 3. Fair play

- Third-party bots, macros, auto-clickers, packet tools, speed hacks and any modified client are
  forbidden.
- The built-in [Auto-Combat](features/auto-combat.md) and Auto-Support are the only allowed
  automation.
- Up to 4 game clients per computer, of which at most 3 may use Auto-Combat / Auto-Support.
- Abusing bugs or exploits is forbidden. Report them to the staff instead. Reported bugs may be
  rewarded.

## 4. Conduct

- Be respectful. Harassment, hate speech, threats, scamming and impersonating staff are not allowed.
- No spamming or advertising other servers.
- Real-money trading (RMT) between players is **allowed**: you may buy or sell items, zeny, Cash Shop items or
  characters for real money, at your own risk. The staff does not mediate these deals and does not restore
  anything lost in one.
- **Scamming** other players is forbidden: taking payment or items without delivering, fake payment proof,
  pretending to be someone else, or going back on a deal.

## 5. Purchases

- Playing is free. [Cash Points and Premium Service](https://newellro.cloud/topup) are optional purchases.
- All purchases are final and non-refundable. They give the right to use virtual items in the game, not
  ownership of any in-game item or account, and cannot be exchanged back for money.

## 6. Enforcement

- Breaking these rules can lead to a warning, mute, jail, item or zeny removal, account ban, or a
  hardware ban covering every account on the same computer.
- Staff decisions may be appealed through the official support channels.

## 7. Changes and availability

- The server is provided "as is". Downtime, rollbacks and data loss can happen.
- These rules and the game itself may change at any time. Continuing to play means you accept the
  current version.

## Example Sanctions

This table is a guideline, not a limit. The staff may give heavier sanctions for repeated offenses or for
offenses that harm many players.

| Account theft / phishing | permanent ban + hardware ban |
| Attacks on the server (DDoS, etc.) | permanent ban + hardware ban |
| Chat spam / advertising other servers | escalating mutes |
| Insults, hate speech, harassment | mute up to a ban |

[Auto-Combat](features/auto-combat.md) is a server feature and **may** be used. What is forbidden are
programs from outside the game. The per-computer client limit is enforced by the server automatically, so a
5th client (or a 4th Auto-Combat) is refused right away.

## Found a Bug?

Players who report serious bugs will be rewarded. Players who quietly abuse them will be banned. Report a bug
in one of these places:

## Appeals

If you think a sanction was wrong, send an appeal with your **account name**, **character name**, and the
**time it happened**:
